The team had a meeting at the beginning of the month where we got to do a Zoom call with the missionaries that we will be working with within the county. They are excited to have our small group of 9.
We learned a little bit about the people of Albania. We are told that they like America due to President Woodrow Wilson helping keep their independence by telling the international community to just leave them alone when they were trying to figure out what should be done. Because of their fondness for us, we will surely get a warm welcome.
For those that are worried about safety due to the Ukraine and Russian war, let me put your worries to rest. Albania is close, but they do not border Ukraine, which means they do have some separation from the conflict. We are also told that the conflict has, for the most part, stayed within Ukraine and has not spilled out other than refugees coming into the country.
Though the country is mostly Muslim, we have learned that the Albanian people are open to talking about religion. There are also no laws about converting to Christianity or any other religion. This means that as missionaries, we will be safe as we walk, talk and interact with the local people.
Let me know if you have any questions. Be sure to check back soon for more updates!
